I highly recommend Mozy.com for automated online backups.Backing up our hard-drives in our computers is just like flossing. We know it is good for us. We know we have to do it. Yet we don't! And when we do, we don't do it properly. And when we do it properly, we don't do it regularly. We are in the midst of a revolution. It started with the development of digital computers in the 1950s and then the mainframe computers. The introduction of the PC accelerated the process. These days more and more of our lives are going digital - from practically all commerce (credit cards, retirement accounts, utility bills and brokerage accounts) to all manner of personal items (digital photos, home videos, blogs etc.). We are creating digital content at an unprecedented rate. And all of this is extremely vulnerable to computer crashes and hard-disk corruptions. My wife and I decided to go all out for digital a few years ago. We had all our bills paid online (most of them on autopay so that we could not forget to pay them on time) and all our financial services (banking, brokerages, retirement accounts etc.) online. But we were still left with a whole bunch of personal stuff that needed to be backed up regularly. We know ourselves pretty well. And we know this about us: we will NOT backup our stuff regularly on our own! What we needed was an automated backup system that backed up all the data on our home computers. It would automatically back up all our files and as we modified any of the files, it would back up the changed files as well. If our system crashed we would contact them and they would help us load our data on the new system. We have been using Mozy now for over a year now, and we are very pleased with the back-up-automatically-in-the-background system. We have felt very safe and secure knowing that our data is safe off-site and should our computer crash, we will be able to recover all that precious content. To be fair, we have not had a system crash and have not really tested that part of the loop. But it is a great feeling knowing that there are these professionals working for us safeguarding our data.
