Issue 4: Life Design

Issue #4 - December 9, 2009
http://www.financial-freedom-guide.com/

This issue is about what I learned in the Life Design 2009 course, but first...

Mastermind Group Forming!

I am excited to announce the formation of a Mastermind group starting in January 2010! Karen Burke of Mobius Business Coaching will facilitate the group. This will take place at the Chamber of Commerce, Acton, MA.
I will be working on accelerating my personal journey towards financial freedom. You are of course free to choose any business venture to focus on, including developing your own financial freedom plan.
When: 2 hours every 4th Wednesday of the month
The first session will be on Wednesday, January 24th.
Please contact me or Karen directly at 978-844-2555. Her website is at http://www.gomobilus.com/index.html.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Life Design 2009

Life Design 2009 came to a close last week. This has been a break-through year for me, and the year-long Life Design group coaching program gets significant credit for that. So what did I learn during this course and what lessons are relevant to financial freedom?

Clarity Matters

I came across a great definition of personal success the other day: Personal success is living in alignment with your values. That's the premise of Life Design in a nutshell.
It is easy to talk about your desires, dreams and ambitions. All books about personal success tell you to set big goals and go after them. The real question is: why are these important to you? Are these your goals or somebody else's wishes for you? Or did you choose these goals because they are "cool"? How do you answer these questions?
Over the course of the year we spent a lot of time discerning our core values, crafting a personal mission statement and then creating a vision for our lives over the next 3 to 5 years. We created our personal vision boards to envision our ideal lives. All these tools brought clarity to what each of us really want in our lives.
We live in a era of unparalleled abundance in the history of humanity. Some people say we have too many choices. I would argue that it is not that there are too many choices, but that we lack clarity on what we want. Once we have that clarity - driven by our core values and our mission statement - the chaos of life becomes manageable. And as we embody our mission statement, life becomes joyful.

A Strong Foundation Matters

Another key victory for me was building a Strong(er) Foundation™ for my ideal life. (Here's an explanation of this tool.) We had already de-cluttered dramatically for our move to a smaller house, but I was not happy with the level of disorganization in our house. Committing to the Strong Foundation™ process helped me bring order into my house.
And of course the primary goal here is to create mental, emotional and physical space for your ideal life. A weak foundation leads to continual loss in dribs and drabs of that most precious and scarce resource - your life energy.
I have said it often to my friends that if I all I got from the year-long course was a Strong Foundation™, I'd consider it worth the money! It is that important.

Accountability Structures Matter

In the end it all comes down to one thing - action. It is really easy to read books about success and goals and how to achieve them - and then not do anything about it. I have done it for many years!
What was missing for me was action. On second thought, that is not really true. What was missing for me was accountability structures. I did not have a coach to keep me on track. I did not have a mastermind group or a dream team to make sure I did what I had promised to do. This was another key learning for me from Life Design.
I have found that most of my accomplishments have come from being in groups. And I will be a part of the Mastermind group in Acton starting in January 2010 to stay on track and build on the momentum that was created in 2009.

Highly Recommended

All these lessons are directly applicable to designing your journey towards financial freedom (or any other field of endeavor for that matter). You need clarity about your ideal life. You need a strong foundation to create space for your ideal life to blossom. And of course you need accountability structures.
Life Design did all this for me, and I thank Jackie and my fellow team mates for the journey. I would highly recommend it to you. It will really and truly change your life.

Update on My Progress

And here is my latest personal financial update:
  • My running average of passive income over the last 3 months is $294.53, of which $40 came from one affiliate program and the rest from dividends.
  • Our basic living expenses are $6000 per month. We are working on bringing this number down.
  • Thus our passive income was 4.9% of our current basic living expenses.

I Recommend

Mozy: Get peace of mind by backing up your precious data automatically.
SiteBuildIt: Create a passive stream of income with your online business.
Vision Board: Animate your Vision Board right on your PC.
Millionaire Mind Intensive: Rewrite your financial blueprint. Use Reference Number 686019.
Life Design 2010: Create a life that is unrecognizable and filled with everything you love!
Visit my Amazon Store: Lots of books to help you become financially free.

Thanks and I will see you again in a month.
